GREEN/SAFE STATEMENT
ULTRA KLEEN® ANIMAL CARE PRODUCTS
Markee has led the pack in producing industrial products that are safe for the workers
and for the environment. We have applied this same “green” technology to bring you the
latest, safest animal care products.
Developing an animal safe shampoo and bodywash that meets our highest standards has
been an exciting and challenging project. We met these design criteria:
1. Clean quickly and rinse very well. This requires a very low foaming product so that
it reaches the skin quickly and then washes out just as quickly.
2. Non-irritating to the skin. Fast rinsing to complete the bathing process efficiently,
and to minimize traces of cleaner on the skin. A product as mild as a skin lotion to reduce,
or eliminate, lingering itchy skin and other skin or hair problems. Avoid many of the harsh,
low cost ingredients used in the industry, such as sodium chloride and sodium or
potassium hydroxide.
3. Minimum eye irritation because it is hard to avoid getting some cleaner in the
animals eyes.
4. Use biodegradable ingredients to protect our environment including our septic
systems.
How we tested our product:
1. Several iterations of proposed formulas have come from our lab over the course of
three years. Each of these was human tested. We used each formula in the shower as a
body wash and shampoo; we hand washed dishes; we used it for lavatory soap. Our
humans reported softer skin, no irritation, no burned eyes; some even preferred it to
their favorite shampoo.
2. One test volunteer rubbed the concentrated product into the inside forearm skin,
below the elbow and left it overnight. There was no redness, irritation, or skin
sensitivity. (Try this test, yourself, before using any product on your animals.)
3. Several volunteers rubbed the concentrated product into their hands and did not
rinse for several hours. There was no irritation or skin sensitivity.
Here are some of the ingredients we avoid, and why:
Sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, sodium chloride, the coconut and laurel oil by-
products such as Cocamide DEA and lauramide DEA because these ingredients dry and
irritate the skin; some are also very high foam producers.
EDTA, phosphorous, and sulfur containing products such as sulfated nonylphenol
ethoxylates because of environmental and septic system concerns.
Silicon because it coats the hairs which makes frequent bathing more necessary. Our
formula naturally reduces tangling.
Mineral oils and vegetable oils because they can block pores and lead to skin problems.
